Have an old sofa that isn’t really working for you anymore and you need to rework your old sofa set? This post is for you!

There are many ways to update your old sofa. From quick and straightforward fixes to more permanent solutions, there’s an answer for each old couch.

If you’re a daily reader here, you recognize I’ve had sofas on my mind lately. We’ve wiped out old sofas in both our recreation room and our front room that I might like to replace with something shiny, new, and delightful. I even shared my top picks for cheap sofa options a couple of weeks ago.

And while I still have my eye on a replacement couch for our recreation room, I do know that there’s absolutely no way we are buying two new sofas immediately. So I’ve also been working to work out the way to update a minimum of one among the sofas we already own. 

Sofas might sound like one among those things that aren’t so DIY-able, but there are literally plenty of belongings you can do to reinvent the less-than-beautiful old couch you already own.

I’ve rounded up the simplest updates I could find to assist solve all of your sofa woes. (And mine.) Because let’s be real, sometimes buying a fresh sofa simply isn’t within the budget! Just click the links below to urge all the small print of the sofa transformations.

1. CLEAN IT

Sometimes it’s amazing what an honest deep cleaning can do for a couch. I used to be ready to get a couple of more years out of our old microfiber sofa just by giving it a very good deep cleaning every now then. You’ll inspect my sofa cleaning method here.

2. FIX THOSE SAGGY CUSHIONS

3. COVER IT WITH PILLOWS

One of the simplest ways to update a settee you not love – just cover it with gorgeous pillows.  It’s amazing how new pillows can completely change the design of a couch.

4. REPLACE YOUR SOFA LEGS

5. ADD TUFTING

  Adding button tufting to the rear cushions gives the whole sofa a replacement, more tailored look.

6. ADD NAILHEAD TRIM

Sometimes its beat the small print upgraded your plain sofa with some DIY nail head trim. It’ll make it look classy

7. BUY A SLIPCOVER

One of the simplest ways to completely change the design and color of your couch is to feature a slipcover. Tons of popular sofa makers like IKEA and Pottery Barn sell special slipcovers that are tailored to suit their sofas exactly.

8. PAINT THE UPHOLSTERY

Okay, so this might be a touch nontraditional, but yes, you’ll actually paint your sofa’s upholstery!

9. REUPHOLSTER IT
